HOW DO BAIL BONDS WORK in Morris County?

A bail amount is given to the defendant based on their crime or sometimes their background for criminal activity. Once the defendant has this amount he/she can either post the amount with th ecourt themselves, or will need to contact a friend or family member to post the amount for them. If the amount is too large and the family doesn't have that kind of money laying about, they can contact a bail bond company, hopefully 1st Class Bail Bonds, where they would only need to pay 10% of the bond.

During our initial phone consultation, we'll collect basic information about the defendant, where they are incarcerated, how long have they've been there, what are the charges, how long have they've been in their current residence, if they work and where, etc. These questions are an attempt to assess the risk involved in writing your bail bond.

If you choose to purchase a bail bond using our service, you'll need to sign bail bond documents including a Bail Bond Application, a Bail Indemnity Agreement, New Jersey Bail Source Inquiry Questionnaire (BSI), and any other type of authorization. To expidite the bail process we have included our forms online: Bail Bond Forms.

Our company can process bail by fax or e-mail in just a few minutes or we can dispatch a licensed bail bond agent to the customer.

After the bail bond paperwork is finalized, a licensed agent will "post" the bail bond at the appropriate detention facility or jail which will result in the release of the defendant. From start to finish, a competent bail bond company will complete the entire bail bond process in 1 to 2 hours. Note that we can't begin the bail bond process in Morris County until all the arrest and booking procedures are complete.

CAUTION: You will be charged 10% of the full bail amount which is mandated by state law. Although, if you don't have that money readily available, 1st Class Bail Bonds offers payment options to meet your needs. Be extremely wary of bail bondsmen offering cheap bail bonds for anything less than 10%. Bail bond cost is set by New Jersey law, and bail agents who charge less could be violating the law or may simply be using a "bait & switch" to get your bail business. If you are unsure about any bail bond company or bondsman you can call the police to verify they are allowed to post bonds in that jurisdiction.

By involving family, friends, and possible collateral, the bail bond company can be reasonably assured that an individual released on bail bond will appear at their appointed court date. With their money at risk, the bail bond company has a financial incentive in supervising bailees, so that they ensuring that they appear for trial. If a defendant "skips bail", the bail agent has time to find the defendant and bring them in. If the defendatn fails to appear, the bail bond company will expect you to know where the defendant can be found and assist in their return to court. As well, you could be charged with an attempt to locate them and even lose money or property that was posted to secure their bail. It's in your best interest to always know where the defendant is and to always work with the bond company.
